When looking at resolution, manufacturers and salesmen often give you an unrealistic resolution for the camera. When they talk about maximum resolution ie. 3.2megapixels - they often forget to tell you if this actually the CCD resolution (hardware) without interpolation. A lot of 2mp cameras are quoted as being up to 4mp using interpolation... So what does this mean? Well, interpolation basically means that they take so many actual pixels of the photo, then guess using the latest algorithems what should go between the pixels, they then build the photo up to a much higher resolution.. This is fine, but obviously not as goos as a true 4mp camera that actually takes 4mp of photograph from the lense and ccd sensor. SO - always look at the specification and ensure you know the actual ccd or hardware resolution without interpolation. This is the true resolution of your photographs!! Sony digital cameras are actually very good at giving you the ccd hardware resolution without interpolation, and can often then be boosted further with the interpolation techniques..
